In early 2003, Brenda began to notice there was something wrong. She began to fall and trip more often and noticed weakness in her arms and hands. She saw her Doctor and was referred to hospital for tests. In May 2003 she underwent a series of tests at Pontefract and Wakefield (Pinderfields) hospitals. Within a few weeks the family were gathered alongside Brenda to hear the devastating news that she had been diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease. After a period of shock, tears and disbelief Brenda was allowed home and the awful news began to filter through the family. Over the next six months Brenda's condition deteriorated and on the morning of Sunday 22nd February 2004 Brenda slipped away peacefully with Les, Michelle and Shaun at her side. Exactly as she had wished.
